Annual Christmas Party for
the Community The
holiday season is a special time of year for children and
families, a time filled with excitement and anticipation.
Sadly however, many do not have the means to purchase even the
most basic holiday gifts. Each winter, The Village Project
helps fulfill the holiday wishes of more than 500
disadvantaged Families through our Annual Christmas Party for
Kids and Families Program. We unite our young
adults and work within the community to serve the
disadvantage, low-income families, seniors, and people with
disabilities.
In
order to continue our work we need your support.
The Village Project is in a continuing spiral of fundraising
to carry out our mission. Will you join us by
contributing to this worthy cause? Your contribution in any
domination is greatly appreciated.
Annual New Years Bowl-a-thon (Gift of Time
Event) The
youth, volunteers, alumni, partnerships and sponsors look
forward to this annual event. For the past 6 years The Village Project has given at-risk youth a memorable experience many of us
take for granted. Held after Christmas (yet still
in the Christmas spirit) and before New Years we hold a unique 'Gift
of Time Bowl-a-Thon' designed especially to serve the
youth. Best of all, the event is shared with Big
Brother and Big Sister mentors who gives the gift of time and what
the youth need
most – direction, love and respect.
Village
Project Camping
Trip Strategically woven
into all the fun at camp is a curriculum that focuses on
building self-esteem and instilling the values of good
citizenship. A citizenship theme is presented at each morning
assembly (good citizens work together, share, are fair to
others, care about others, and are loyal). The youth are
encouraged to practice each theme during the camp through
their activities, skits and personal actions. Teamwork is also
strongly emphasized through “cabin” competitions and sporting
events. Both individual and team efforts are rewarded daily
through special recognition and blue ribbons.
Everyone goes home a winner.
The Village Camp educational centerpiece is
our anti-drug and gang resistance program. The children attend
GREAT
(Gang Resistance Education and Training) classes taught by
nationally recognized instructors. Counselors and staff serve
as both teachers and role models to reinforce our daily
messages.
